The Man with the Yellow Sweater and White Sneakers

The streets of Cusco
You think it's a bus ride , but in reality it is a roller coaster... on Monday we began our 21 hour bus trip from Lima to Cusco. It was a crazy ride through the pacific coast, desert , sand dunes, high mountians with snow and jungle like greenry to get to our final destination: Cusco. After three very busy weeks in Lima our week in Cusco was a bit of a relief. We really needed a less cramped schedule as a team. During our week in Cusco our program consisted of two parts: teaching English at the local Christian school and treasure hunting evangelism. The testimony of this week we will be only too happy to share!

Treasure Hunting on the main square of Cusco

Treasure Hunting in Cusco. Treasure Hunting is a way to do street evangelism, we prayed and ask God who we should share with about Him. We started our mornings with worship and prayer time to hear from God who He wanted us to talk to. Every day we got as a team different images of the people we should go to and than we went into the city and looked for these people. One testimony we would like to share about a member of our team who got a picture of a man wearing a yellow sweater and white shoes, with the thought that this man was looking for the love of a Father. We went out to the center of Cusco which is full of turists, with a little hesitation if he would find this guy or not.  And ye, after a while two of our team saw the man with the yellow sweater and white sneakers. They went to him and told him of our prayers and the love of the Father for him. He was visibly touched and surprised . For us this was a huge encouragement and affirmation for this young man and hopefully a seed in the ground that will bear fruit.

Evangelizing with flowers and pieces of cake

Vendors in the streets of Cusco

Cusco is a beautiful city with an Italian/Spanish character. It is visited by backpackers and tourists of all ages and from all over the world. It also has many street vendors and beggars. Since we wanted to use different ways of evangelism we also went on the streets to bless the local people. We split into groups and each group got a certian amount of money to bless the people. A conversation can be difficult to have in Spanish, but using flowers and pieces of cake to bless the street vendors and beggers can send a clear message of love. The smiles of these people will not be soon forgotten. We were able to share a little about the Father´s love through our little Spanish and hand gestures and mostly through little blessings!

The man in the restaurant

Monday night we went to a local restaurant to have dinner. Just as we were choosing our meal an old man came in and asked for the food leftovers from the restaurant. The owners thought it would be rude to give him food in front of us ¨the white people¨ they wanted to send him away . We saw a beautiful opportunity, and invited him to join us for dinner. This gave the man tears in his eyes and he immensely enjoyed the food together with us. A few of us were able to pray for him, the man said he had nine children but that he lived alone and had no one to care of him, we were also able to send him home with a little extra food. It has shown us how big the differences can sometimes be in these countries and our home. We also realize sometimes you can bring mercy and justice in the small corneres. It might cost you some extra money, time and attention but it can be invaluable to the person you are blessing!

Bye, Bye beautiful Cusco

Street evangelism in Cusco

Our week in Cusco went by quickly and as a team we were able to do some street evangelism and see God work through prayers. We might not realize enough how our time here has affected the people of Cusco, but God does and He will continue growing the seeds we have planted.
