First week in Peru!!

Safe flight to Lima, Peru!

Today marks our fifth day in Lima, Peru!! We arrived safely to our apartment in the district of La Molina after a wonderful flight with delicious food and a very good service! :) The first day we rested from our travels and got to know the area we are staying in a bit, while getting used to the wonderful Peruvian sun. Actually, it was so wonderful that some of us already have a burned skin!

We also met the couple who started the ministry we will be involved in for the next three weeks Jordi and Ria Bos.

The construction garbage of the area gets dumped in the slum, and some of the people living in the slum look for pieces of metal to sell for a living

The whole area is being filled with construction pieces

Our ministries in Brasos Abiertos

Kindergarten school

Brasos Abiertos Kindergarten

The ministries we will be doing here are in one of the slum areas of Lima. During the next three weeks we will be serving in the kindergarten school Jordi and Ria started called Brasos Abiertos. This school is in the slum area, the kids are from the age of 3 to 5. These are adorable kids who would probably stay home alone or go to work in the dump area 50 meters next to Brazos Abiertos with their parents if the school did not exist.

The children can come to the school for breakfast, and they receive a lot of love and affection in the school which is missing in their homes.

Sheer helping teach English class to the kids :)

Building

The begining of the new building

We are helping build a new building for the school, which is in a property right next to the school. This new building will be used for a women's ministry and a church as well as other ministries.

Much progress after a few days of hard work :)
English class

Stephanie teaching the kids the story "You are Special" by Max Lucado

We also have the opportunity to teach English class in a public school in the slums. The quality of the education system is very low and the school has crowded classes. The age of the children is between 4-12 and we teach in different grades. We teach them how to communicate in English and told them the story "You are Special" by Max Lucado. This is a wonderful chance to share the gospel with these children while teaching them.

This is the center of the school surrounded by classrooms. During the break the children play outside.

Childwork and youth groups

We will also be doing various projects with the churches in the slums with their children and youth groups. We lead children work, dance and drama lessons. As well as preaching and sharing testimonies in churches. The people who come to these services are mostly new believers or catholics. This is a great opportunity to reach people and share about the Lord.
